Disgusted to be Canadian

Posted by bigceebee on June 16, 2011 at 11:07 AM

Note: I had already posted something earlier and I usually don’t blog more than once a day but I wanted to get this up as soon as possible to vent my anger.

The title of this blog post is not completely accurate but reflects how I feel after reading of and seeing photos of the recent, stupid, moronic events which occurred in Vancouver. Yes, I’m talking about the riots which erupted after the Canucks lost the Stanley Cup to the Boston Bruins last night (June15th). That people would become so absolutely barbaric in relation to the outcome of a sporting event literally brings a lump to my throat and makes me want to throw up, not just out of sadness but also from rage.

What does setting fires, smashing windows, looting and generally creating devastation have to do with who the hell won? Why not mob the Canucks and kill the players since they're the ones who lost? Or how about beating the Boston Bruins to death, seeing as they snatched the victory from Vancouver? Of course, I make these statements sarcastically in the face of the absurdity and horror of this situation.

Similar riots have occurred in the past and it seems likely that others will take place in the future. Will governments have to outlaw professional sports to keep these savages at bay? It’s a shame to think so but with recurring proof that mankind, or a strain thereof, can act so viciously in our “civilized” world, I’d hope that they do.

I love Canada and I’m generally proud of my country but today, I’m disgusted to be Canadian.

It's pretty unreal how animalistic people can get no matter what country they're from. Some people belong more in a cage than with the privilege of freedom. It's entirely tragic, but true.

they have said on the news that the riots were the work of anarchists, aka along the vein of anarchists worldwide who foment chaos for chaos' sake. however, i am no specialist mind you, but logic and common sense tell me the timing with the cannucks losing sounds a bit suspicious.

reminds me of that other great city: Detroit... where if their team wins? they throw TVs through shop windows, vandalize, loot and set cars on fire.

and in Detroit? If their team loses, they do the same thing.
